Nursing Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care.
• Focus on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction.
• Formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments.
• Seek guidance in how to improve care provided to residents and families.
• Provide principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills.
• Seek documentation guidance from the Minimum Data Set (MDS) Coordinator to ensure accuracy of the Resource Utilization Group (RUG) score.
• Responsible to the assigned rating and approving supervisors and is accountable to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services (ADPCS).
• Manage workload as assigned, organize, and completes own assignments in an efficient and appropriate manner.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary care.
• Establish a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to attain, maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment.
• Engage patients, families, and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination.
• Maintain knowledge of ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and follows established policies of the practice setting, VA, and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
• Maintain awareness of high reliability principles to deliver consistent care and improve patient outcomes
• Communicate, collaborate, and utilize leadership principles to perform as an effective member of the interprofessional team.
• Deliver fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills.
• Assess, plans, implement, and evaluate care based on age-specific components.
• Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
• Administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team

Preferred Experience: One Year Med/Surg or Long Term Care
