Job Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Electrician (2ND Class) to work on our MFC Electrical team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our MFC facility with every Friday off.


In this role, you will perform maintenance (corrective, preventive, predictive, routine, and troubleshooting) on electrical systems and components in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner in accordance with company and facility procedures and policies including the usage of human performance principles (HPI). Work may be performed in a nuclear facility.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plant specific electrical equipment and systems including HVAC, GFCI's, motors and generators, battery banks and chargers, switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, voltage regulators, electronic governors, cranes and hoists, variable frequency drive control, lighting systems, and various power systems and controls. May include installation, modifications, and repairs on nuclear facility equipment and components.
• Operate electrical conduit bending equipment, wiring fabrication, installation, basic hand, portable power, and shop equipment and tools.
• Install, remove, and perform corrective maintenance on electrical raceways and protective devises. Install, connect, terminate, inspect, maintain, repair, and remove conductors.
• Rack low and medium voltage breakers in and out of service.
• Obtain and use drawings, blueprints, schematics, and vendor data to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, relays, and equipment.
• Assist planner in ordering and obtaining parts needed for repairs and PMs as well as spare parts.
• Participate in work order planning, procedure reviews, and walkdowns and provides valuable information throughout the work control and execution process as assigned. Recommend to the planner on hazard identification, hazard mitigation, technical information, task sequencing, resource requirements, equipment requirements, and other information to produce a work document that can be used in the field to accomplish the identified work scope.
• Attend safety and other training as directed by the training schedule and supervisor.
• Provide on-the-job training to other craftsmen as requested by maintenance management.
• Provide feedback to the foreman on any training needs or improvements that are needed to drive better performance and identifying any opportunities for improvement.
• Provide feedback to the Planning Manager and/or Planning Lead on any recommended improvements to the work order documentation process.
• Plan, implement, and complete special projects within area of expertise assigned by the foreman.
• Fill in as Leadman for Foreman as requested.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
• Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Ability to review and understand the work orders prior to commencing work.
• Ability to understand and adhere to Conduct of Maintenance principles.
• Ability to qualify in the timeframe provided by maintenance management and maintaining assigned qualifications in accordance with the INL and other Program qualification process.
• Ability to perform work in accordance with all applicable laws, codes, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Ability to work extended periods of time in Radiological work areas including the required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
• Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
• Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Journeyman Electrical License.
• Within 12 months of hire, complete required ES&H training to carry out assigned responsibilities.
• Depending on assignment, within 3 months of hire, complete Radiological Worker I and/or II Qualification requirements and maintain qualification for duration of employment.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Within one month of hire, submit the documentation for a DOE "L" clearance.
• Maintain required clearance for duration of employment.
• MFC Specific:
• Within the timeframe provided by maintenance management, qualify as INL and MFC Electrician.
• Special Requirements:
• Testing Designated Position (TDP).
• Depending on assignment, qualify to wear a respirator.
• Qualify as Electrical Lead if requested by maintenance management.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Two years' experience as a journeyman electrician.

Job Information:

• The pay for this position is $41.45/hr. (Rate can vary based upon individual work location, clearances, and qualifications. Rates are accurate for current posting and subject to change (These are bargaining unit positions.)
• TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Working Conditions:

The work environment includes an office, buildings, and a field environment. The field environment may include exposure to adverse weather, working in high traffic areas, potential exposure to hazardous chemicals/waste, and noisy and/or loud equipment. Field work may include working with hazards involving the use of ladders, stairs, confined spaces, power tools and equipment which subjects the employee to mechanical and electrical hazards, moving vehicles, and heavy equipment. Position requires use of protective clothing and respirator as needed. Position requires irregular hours/overtime, shifts greater than 8 hours/day, and working alone.
