Position Summary The Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) performs high‑complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, manages quality control and assurance procedures, and ensures compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laboratory requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures (SOPs). Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment according to SOPs. Review, interpret, and report patient results in the laboratory information management system (LIMS). Independently identify and troubleshoot high‑complexity problems that affect test performance. Perform, review, and document laboratory quality control procedures. Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications. Perform and document routine preventive maintenance. Prepare reagents required for testing. Perform and document reagent qualification per approved protocols. Lead introduction of assay improvements, new assay configurations, and validation activities. Provide direct supervision of unlicensed laboratory personnel during the analytical phase of testing. Communicate effectively with coworkers and non‑laboratory personnel. Write and review controlled documents as assigned. Lead the training of new and existing laboratory personnel on current and new procedures. Participate in inspection preparation activities as needed. Act as a team leader or delegated general supervisor, including: Assist in administrative duties such as reviewing documents and forms. Take charge of shift communication when supervisors or leads are absent. Provide updates regarding any issues. Assist in sample and process troubleshooting. Monitor data and process status as needed. Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned. Report all concerns regarding test quality and/or safety to the Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Director, or Safety Officer. Qualifications Active, valid CLS or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) license issued by the state of California, or equivalent licensed credentials required for the specialty performed. Compliance with 42CFR493.1489 or 493.1491, 10 NYYCRR Part58‑1.5, and the College of American Pathologists Molecular Pathology Checklist. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science, or a related field (preferred). At least two years of Guardant Health Clinical Laboratory experience or equivalent high‑complexity and volume laboratory experience (preferred). Laboratory experience within the last year (preferred). Experience with molecular biology techniques (preferred). Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations (preferred). Ability to integrate and apply feedback professionally. Strong quality‑focused test processing management skills. Analytical problem‑solving skills for basic issues impacting test performance. Team‑work capability. Strong computer and automation proficiency. Consistent, clear, and honest communication skills. AI & Digital Fluency Demonstrate curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to critically evaluate and responsibly leverage AI‑enabled tools in accordance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of work. Hybrid Work Model Employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility are required to work onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Remaining days may include in‑person collaboration or work‑from‑home periods, as specified by management and company policies. Compensation Redwood City, CA: $63,000 – $87,000 base salary. Other U.S. locations: $53,000 – $74,000 base salary. Colorado location: $57,000 – $78,000 base salary. Compensation offers are based on geography, experience, education, and job duties.
