Principal Scientist, AI / ML

Edwards Lifesciences seeks a Principal Scientist to lead AI/ML strategy across structural heart disease applications. The role involves designing scalable AI solutions, developing foundation models, and providing technical leadership for an AI Center of Excellence focused on clinical decision support and digital health innovations.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of scalable AI solutions addressing complex structural heart disease challenges
• Develop domain-specific foundation models using clinical datasets including imaging, NLP, and waveform data
• Drive research in generative AI, multimodal learning, self-supervised learning, and physics-informed AI techniques
• Ensure model safety, fairness, robustness, and generalizability for regulated healthcare deployment
• Set scientific standards, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with engineering, quality, clinical, and regulatory teams

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree plus 6 years AI/ML engineering experience with cross-functional enterprise teams
• Proven ability to design, train, and validate machine learning models end-to-end
• Deep technical expertise in two of: NLP, computer vision, time-series modeling, or computational simulation
• MS or PhD in computer science, machine learning, biomedical engineering, or equivalent industry experience (preferred)
• 10-15 years applied machine learning or AI research with production deployment track record (preferred)
• Proficiency with ML/DL libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn) and LLM frameworks (Hugging Face, LangChain)
• Senior technical leadership capability with mentoring experience; medtech or cardiovascular domain knowledge preferred
