Functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gowns and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field, and issuing instruments to surgeons.Responsibilities include:Setting up tables, instruments and supplies for plastic surgery operationsAssisting in preparation and draping of patient and operative areasPreparing and passing instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintaining a correct count of the sameAssisting in maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysisDecontaminating all equipment, instruments and suppliesCleaning and stocking storage room as requiredAssisting with table equipment, positioning patients, application of plaster dressingsPreparing and maintaining the sterile field for the surgical procedureAssisting in discharging patients from the Operating Room SuiteFollowing established HIPPA policies and procedures at all timesAssuming accountability and responsibility for attendance and timely completion of mandatory training programs, unit specific requirements (i.e. BLS, ACLS, Surgical Assistant Certification) and unit meetings.Education & Experience:High School Diploma requiredMinimum 1-2 years of experience in an Operating Room setting requiredSurgical Assistant Certification requiredHolds and maintains an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) CertificationBilingual in English and Spanish preferredProlonged periods of standing, reaching and bendingMust be able to lift up to 10-20 pounds at timesGood motor coordination required for rapid and accurate movements of the body and hand in response to visual and audio stimuli in the Operating Room
