Job Description
The role of a Phlebotomist I involves assisting in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position requires proficiency in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection as required.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Ensure 100% accuracy in test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers and label them accurately.
• Follow protocols specific to maintaining the integrity of specimens for transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 0-2 years of experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in phlebotomy, blood draw, and venipuncture is essential.

Work Environment
The role is based in a Patient Service Center located in Clifton, NJ. The work schedule is Saturdays from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm. The position requires handling approximately 35 draws daily and involves working with a team, catering to pediatric patients of all ages. The candidate will receive one week of training at the start of the role.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
