Engine Control Systems - Staff Engineer

Summary We design, develop, validate, and qualify engine control algorithms and strategies that integrate hardware and software to deliver innovative products for Military applications. The focus of this role will be the NPI programs, supporting next-generation aviation products from early science and technology programs through New Product Introduction. Roles and Responsibilities Identify, develop, evaluate, introduce, and manage engineering solutions for product control and control system technology needs. Apply control theory and mathematical modeling to design and control systems with desired behaviors, including operability, boundary setting, cycle optimization, control logic, sensor integration, hardware and software algorithms, and feedback to control performance of devices, subsystems, and systems. Use a basic understanding of key business drivers to accomplish own work and integrate the work of the team with other teams and the area. Resolve issues that require technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures, consulting senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions or parameters. Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures. Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a STEM major. Minimum of 5 years’ experience related to embedded controls systems and software development. Successful candidate must obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required. Ability to prove status as a U.S. Person (lawful permanent resident, citizen, or granted asylum/refugee status) to access export‑controlled information. Desired Characteristics Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience developing and maintaining dynamic simulation and modeling tools for physics‑based and logic‑based system design. Familiarity with NPSS simulation tools, Python, and GitHub. Ability to work collaboratively in a structured team environment. Passion for developing aircraft engine controls methodologies, including hardware & software integration, requirements development and documentation, logic design, development, validation, and support for the product software release process. Relevant experience with aviation systems or engine controls systems requirements, MATLAB/Simulink, and related toolsets. Relevant experience coaching and mentoring less‑experienced engineers to develop engine controls logic. Relevant experience documenting controls system logic and software development processes.
