Drives research projects scientifically and determines the course of research as evidenced by leadership, obtaining funding, writing, or other recognition. May not necessarily receive independent resources; however, their contribution is essential to the conceptual/scientific success of the project. May not necessarily receive independent resources; however, their contribution is essential to the conceptual/scientific success of the project.The Research Scientist will support the Principal Investigator in the George A. “Doc” Lopez, MD Laboratory for Regenerative Cell Therapy within the Department of Neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. This position will play a central role in establishing and advancing the laboratory’s electrophysiology and animal research capabilities. The research scientist must have a PhD in Neuroscience, or Biology, must be able to work independently as needed. The research scientist possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills and works well as part of a team. Experience with electrophysiological experiments and animal work is required; experience with Parkinson’s Disease animal model is a plus.Essential FunctionsElectrophysiologyEstablish, optimize, and maintain the laboratory’s electrophysiology platform.Design and perform patch-clamp electrophysiology experiments.Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for electrophysiology experiments.Analyze, interpret, summarize, and present electrophysiological data.Maintain electrophysiology equipment and ensure its proper operation.Animal ResearchLead all aspects of animal-based research activities.Establish and perform stereotaxic surgical procedures, drug-delivery techniques, and behavioral assays.Conduct tissue collection, sectioning, histology, and related analyses.Develop, optimize, and document experimental protocols and methodologies.Manage animal research protocols and ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.Coordinate animal ordering and maintain accurate animal inventories, experimental records, and logs.Maintain equipment used for animal procedures and behavioral testing.Train junior lab membersPrefer a Doctorate in Neuroscience, Biology, or a closely related fieldRange $60,000 - $96,000Remote TypeOnsiteWork Location15 Parkman StreetScheduled Weekly Hours40Employee TypeRegularWork ShiftDay (United States of America)EEO Statement:1200 The General Hospital Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
