We’re working with a well-established, AAHA-accredited companion animal hospital in Sacramento, California that is seeking a Medical Director to lead its clinical team while continuing to practice high-quality veterinary medicine. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced veterinarian looking to combine hands-on clinical care with the opportunity to shape medical standards and guide a collaborative hospital team.

This modern small animal hospital provides comprehensive care for cats and dogs in a well-equipped and efficiently managed clinical setting. The hospital emphasizes patient comfort, client communication, and evidence-based medicine supported by advanced diagnostic tools.

On-site capabilities include:

• Digital radiography and hands-free imaging systems
• Ultrasound diagnostics
• In-house laboratory testing
• Dental radiography and dental procedures
• Soft tissue surgery (including mass removals and laceration repair)
• Preventive care, wellness exams, and routine surgical services

The hospital practices Fear-Free handling techniques whenever possible and maintains close access to 24-hour specialty referral care for advanced cases.

Leadership Role

As Medical Director, this position blends clinical practice with leadership responsibilities, including:

• Setting and maintaining medical quality standards
• Guiding clinical protocols and patient care workflows
• Supporting and mentoring veterinarians and technical staff
• Strengthening team collaboration and hospital culture
• Helping shape the future direction of the practice

Schedule

• Full-time or part-time options available
• Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Flexible scheduling within hospital hours

Caseload

• Small animal practice (dogs and cats only)
• Mix of wellness care and medical cases
• Common services include: preventive care, sick visits, spay/neuter procedures, dental care, and routine soft tissue surgery

Ideal Candidate

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from an accredited institution
• Licensed in California, or eligible for licensure
• Strong clinical background in small animal medicine and surgery
• Demonstrated or emerging leadership experience
• Excellent communication and team-building skills
• Commitment to high-quality, ethical veterinary care
• Passion for mentorship and continuous learning

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $66,560 – $180,000 annually (based on experience and credentials)
