The Work You Will Do:

Public Information Specialist - District Five / Office of Safety

This position will serve as a liaison between the Office of Safety and other departments within the District, especially the Public Information Office. Assists with administrative and project support needs from the District and Central Office.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Helps to develop and facilitate outreach and campaign strategies related to traffic/transportation safety. These outreach and campaign strategies should relate to and support FDOT’s Target Zero Policy. Assists the Safety Administrator in creating, reviewing, writing, rewriting, and editing materials released to the public, government partners, media and internal customers. This includes material for web and social media content, public outreach, and internal communications, such as a newsletter. Assists in the preparation of graphic material (i.e. exhibits, videos, print material) for presentation to the public, mainly related to safety. Assist in managing and updating the Office of Safety website and other Department sites, including but not limited to Sharepoint.

Serves as liaison between the Office of Safety and other departments within the District, especially the Public Information Office. Assists with administrative and project support needs from the District and Central Office.

Develop and manage professional and contractual service contracts, and other types of agreements, that support the Office of Safety. This includes project management responsibilities associated with procuring contracts, issuing task work orders, reviewing contract deliverables, reviewing, and processing invoices, coordinating Department personnel and other agencies associated with work under the contract, preparing contract correspondence, maintaining project files, and actively participating in project meetings

Participate in meetings, on committees, task teams, coalitions, and other groups with internal and external customers to represent safety interests. Includes, providing useful commentary and review of work products as well as developing correspondence and follow-up contact as needed.

• Business software programs, including word processing, spreadsheet, desktop publishing and PowerPoint presentations.

Other Job-Related Requirements:

• This incumbent may be required to work occasional nights and weekends.

• Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 6 years of professional experience in news reporting, editing, public relations, public information, advertising, marketing, mass communications, or journalism.

• Postsecondary education in the field of communications or English can substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
