Survey Technician 1

HDR is seeking an entry‑level Survey Technician 1 to work as part of a survey crew in our Kansas City, MO office. The role involves performing boundary, topography, ALTA, right‑of‑way, design and construction surveys for public, private and internal clients. The position requires daily field work and occasional travel. Responsibilities Assist the party chief in conducting land surveys. Maintain surveying equipment and vehicle inventory. Maintain records, prepare reports and correspondence related to the work. Be knowledgeable of mathematics, survey computer programs and computations applicable to the work. Be knowledgeable of surveying instruments and equipment and their use and care. Understand and apply the principles and practices of land surveying. Apply knowledge of land surveying to activities and techniques. Make accurate arithmetic computations and record results legibly. Carry out written and oral directions. Communicate effectively with others. Maintain favorable public relations. Be willing and able to travel for out‑of‑town work. Have a valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record check. Assist in field layout and measurement. Assist in preparation of base maps. Perform standard calculations to determine elevation, areas and volumes from survey notes. Use standard tapes and electronic field equipment in a fashion consistent with accepted rules. Perform basic calculations from field note data, read, interpret and use topographic maps and design drawings. Demonstrate understanding of basic survey or CAD computer applications. Perform other duties as needed. Required Qualifications Associate degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience with AutoCAD.
