Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school, vocational school, or equivalent and two years of experience in journeyman level carpentry and/or painting, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning/heating work or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and be insurable by District's insurance carrier.
Must obtain a valid EPA Refrigerant Transitions and Recovery "UNIVERSAL" technician certification within 12 months of employment.
Successful completion of a drug screen and criminal history background check is required prior to employment.
Evening and weekend work hours may be required.
Position Summary
This is skilled journeyman level work in one or more building/facility maintenance areas including air conditioning and heating, electrical, carpentry, and painting Alachua County Library District. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining air conditioning and heating equipment; performing skilled carpentry work and repairing facilities and buildings; painting buildings, equipment, furniture and fixtures; and installing, repairing and maintaining electrical systems.
Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, inspections, and observation of results obtained.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs general maintenance/carpentry work in the construction, alteration and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, fixtures and furniture. Estimates time and materials for projects and keeps records of cost involved. Provides limited supervision and instruction to semi-skilled and unskilled helpers. Services, maintains and repairs heating and air conditioning units; including HVAC systems and energy management systems. Conducts preventative maintenance/safety inspections and repairs. Assists in planning and preparing specifications for new installation and modification projects involving air conditioning, heating and/or facilities, and buildings and grounds. Cleans and prepares exterior and interior surfaces for painting; prepares materials and erects scaffolds. Paints buildings, walls, furniture, fixtures and equipment. Maintains and repairs power tools, electrical and gas powered equipment. Installs, maintains, and replaces electrical wiring, switches, and outlets. Performs general maintenance work on buildings and grounds. Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment that is not under contract with the carrier. Performs preventative maintenance on and repairs all electrical doors. Performs all plumbing repairs except main line sewer. Replaces and repairs lighting systems. Checks all equipment under contract for proper operation. Compiles safety logs, maintenance records and accident reports as necessary. Repairs or replaces windows as needed. Assemble and disassemble furnishings, equipment and fixtures. Performs janitorial work as assigned. Retrieves, replaces and transports Library related items of various size and weight as instructed. Ensures patron compliance of all policies and procedures through effective communication and enforcement. Drives a District vehicle to perform required duties at various Alachua County Library branches. Performs related and other duties as assigned. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to make estimates of time and materials and prepare records of same. Ability to perform work from scaffolding or lifts at heights up to 30 feet. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and the public. Ability to perform duties under adverse conditions. Ability to safely operate a District vehicle.
