Job Duties The Department of Anesthesiology offers a unique opportunity for a Medical Director of the Pre Anesthesia Assessment clinic. The expectation of UW Health Medical Directors is to provide leadership to their program/area(s) that results in the consistent and successful delivery of “Remarkable Healthcare” that is high quality, cost efficient, and delivered in a way that is highly satisfying for patients, providers, and staff. Each Medical Director has particular areas of emphasis for their role but ensuring the provision of “Remarkable Healthcare” is a shared responsibility. In support of delivering “Remarkable Healthcare,” Medical Directors promote excellence in both culture and performance management. Medical Directors are expected to perform standard work that supports this achievement, work with administrative partners and/or leaders to establish and maintain a culture that values and embraces the team‑based care model, and identify opportunities for improvement while using the UW Health Way to drive changes that improve performance in needed areas. This position is part‑time, 20%. The work schedule is flexible and will be determined at the time of hire. This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. Contact with vulnerable populations that are non‑minors: This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years. Daily responsibilities include leading with humility and a focus on service, communicating and reinforcing goals, maintaining open communication channels, ensuring adherence to standard processes and clinical guidelines, addressing and resolving problems and conflicts promptly, and coaching staff as needed. Monthly responsibilities involve proactively engaging with providers and staff about culture, reviewing clinical quality, safety, cost, and patient experience indicators, managing performance, reviewing action plans with administrative partners, and celebrating successes while addressing barriers. Biannually responsibilities include formally reviewing culture in regular meetings and updating action plans for the area. Annually responsibilities cover identifying staff and provider development opportunities, and completing a time study for CMS reporting as directed by UW Health physician leadership. Episodic responsibilities entail supporting new initiatives, partnering in implementation, improving local processes, coaching subordinates, participating in departmental and leadership meetings, and other leadership activities as needed. Key Job Responsibilities Directs the deployment of a clinical information system and other information technology resources within medical services. Exercises supervisory authority over at least 2.0 full‑time equivalent employees, including hiring, promotions, performance management, and disciplinary actions. Assures compliance with standards and requirements of accrediting organizations and governmental regulations. Serves as a clinical resource to providers throughout the division. Evaluates and responds to patient concerns and complaints. Supports development, measurement, and achievement of performance standards for quality, service, efficiency, and effectiveness for all programs and services. Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives for medical services to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan. Compensation Negotiable, 12 month. Required Qualifications Board‑certified or board‑eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiologists by start date. Completion of a U.S. Anesthesiology residency by start date and eligibility for billing provider enrollment and hospital privileges. Depth of understanding of preoperative assessment and perioperative management of surgical patients. Effective leadership, communication, and human relations abilities. Record of initiating change and innovation, strategic thinking, planning, problem solving, conflict management and resolution, and a commitment to improving patient experience and outcomes. Preferred Qualifications MD, DO or equivalent by start date. Experience in a team‑based care model and collaborative work environment.
