Job Title: Tool & Die Maker
Location: Dundee, MI
Shift: 1st Shift

• Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM start (end time varies: 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts)
• Weekends: Some Saturdays and occasional Sundays
  Pay: Competitive, based on skill level and years of experience
  Travel:   Minimum ~30%(approximately one week per month; primarily Michigan, occasional out-of-state)

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled  Tool & Die Maker with strong  progressive die experience to support new builds and rework projects in a non-production toolroom environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on toolmaker who can build a die from start to finish, read prints confidently, and work independently on complex tooling.

This position includes  occasional travel to support other facilities or customer sites when workload requires. Travel is fully supported and compensated.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, repair, and modify progressive dies from concept through completion.
• Perform full new tool builds, including layout, fitting, assembly, and tryout.
• Troubleshoot and rework tooling as needed to meet quality and performance requirements.
• Read and interpret blueprints, die prints, and engineering documentation.
• Use precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, etc.) accurately.
• Support tooling projects at other facilities as needed (travel required).
• Collaborate with engineering and leadership during tooling reviews and walk-throughs.
• Maintain strong 5S, safety, and workmanship standards in the toolroom.

Travel Expectations & Compensation

• ~30% travel minimum (often one full week at a time if shop workload is slow).
• Travel locations may include:
• • Michigan (Bellevue, Milan, Detroit – typically home nightly)
  • Occasional travel to UP, Ohio, Kentucky, Chicago, South Carolina, and southern states
• Travel includes:
• • Hotel provided
  • $65/week food allowance
  • Travel time and work fully compensated
• Training period: First 30 days on-site prior to travel; initial travel paired with an experienced team member.

Qualifications
Required

• Strong experience with progressive dies.
• Demonstrated ability to complete a full new die build independently.
• Solid toolroom fundamentals: fitting, benching, assembly, troubleshooting.
• Comfortable working hands-on and explaining tooling processes during shop walk-throughs.
• Ability to meet at least 75% of core tool & die competencies expected of a full toolmaker.
• Reliable work ethic and strong attitude; long-term mindset preferred

Preferred

• Journeyman Tool & Die Maker card (preferred, not required).
• Experience in supplier toolrooms (non-production environments).
• Apprenticeship background a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

• Tool reimbursement: $300
• Steel-toe boot allowance: $150

Time Off

• Starting PTO typically 3 weeks (negotiable higher based on experience).
