Position Title LiDAR Monitoring Technician Member (Region4) – AmeriCorps Location Conservation Legacy, Crawfordville, FL32327, United States Terms of Service 18 weeks (July13,2026– November13,2026) Open Positions Available: 4 Application Deadline: June7,2026(or until filled) AmeriCorps Slot Classification: 675 hours Job Overview Stewards Individual Placements, an AmeriCorps affiliated program, in partnership with Region4 of the U.S.Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), seeks individuals to serve in the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) Monitoring Program. The program integrates forest vegetation and ecosystem surveying technology into land management practices. Members will work in two-person teams to establish and monitor long-term plots at national wildlife refuges, providing data that supports land treatment decisions and habitat restoration. Responsibilities Operate the BLK360 LiDAR sensor to collect point cloud data at each plot, protecting and maintaining the sensor and troubleshooting issues. Establish long‑term LiDAR monitoring plots by coordinating with supervisors, refuge staff, and teammates; prioritizing plots; planning efficient routes with ArcGIS FieldMaps; recording scan locations; and following vegetative survey protocols. Manage LiDAR data: offload scans, perform quality control, convert file formats, rename files, and upload data correctly for analysis. Receive in‑person training and use step‑by‑step guides for equipment and software. Qualifications United States citizen, U.S.national, or lawful permanent resident alien. Age18–30, veterans up to35years. Willingness to provide information for eligibility verification and complete a National Service Criminal History Check. Familiarity with forest or biological survey protocols. Ability to conduct field work carrying equipment across varied, sometimes remote, terrain and dense vegetation. Resilient work ethic with a positive attitude. Effective interpersonal and communication skills while working in a team. Preferred Qualifications Degree or progress toward one in forestry, biology, natural resources management, wildlife management, GIS, or related field. Experience in ArcGIS/GPS spatial analysis of natural resources. Forest mensuration, resource inventory, or biological surveying experience. Forest management or wildlife management courses and/or experience. Experience and safety knowledge of operating UTVs/ATVs. Working Conditions / Physical Effort The position requires working in variable weather, at remote locations, on diverse terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. Possibility of injury and exposure to hazards such as heat, humidity, snakes, and insects. Physical exertion outdoors, all weather conditions, on difficult or hazardous terrain. Willingness to travel frequently and work varying shifts. Time Requirements Service expected Monday to Friday; schedules may vary. Commuting includes a half‑hour lunch break not counted toward AmeriCorps service. Members may participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of the term. Commitment to a36–40 hour work week schedule to meet AmeriCorps Ed Award requirements. Benefits Segal AmeriCorps Education Award Living allowance of $600 per week $500 field gear and PPE stipend Relocation stipend of $500 ($250 at the start and $250 at the end of service) Housing provided Evaluation and Reporting Performance evaluated on completion of required hours, satisfactory assignment accomplishment, and other criteria communicated at the start of the term. Reporting includes bi‑weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
