Job Title: Labor and Delivery RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: In-state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, FHM Must-Have: - Previous charge experience preferred - Community hospital experience preferred - Charting system experience required Description: This position is for a Labor and Delivery RN. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery. First-time travelers are accepted. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, NRP, and FHM. The role involves floating as needed within the facility. Candidates must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays. We follow staffing guidelines for patient ratios. Active labor typically means 1:1 ratios. Non-active labor may require 1:2 ratios. Triage or antepartum patients may have a ratio of 1:3. Under busy circumstances, nurses may need to take additional patients as required. Special requirements include managing inductions, scheduled and unscheduled C-sections, and high-risk patients. Skills necessary for this role include expertise in labor assessment, newborn care, and pain management. Nurses may also be involved in postpartum care and discharge education for parents. The daily census typically includes several patients. Expected procedures include using epidural pumps, IV monitors, and various fetal monitoring techniques. Team collaboration with interdisciplinary support services, including respiratory and social services, is essential. Candidates must be prepared to engage in patient education and family support throughout the delivery process. Floating to other units may be required based on staffing needs. All certifications must be valid and in hand prior to starting the position.
