As an After-School Assistant Counselor, you will contribute to a positive and enriching learning environment for elementary-aged children. In this role, you will lead engaging activities, ensure student safety and well-being, and foster meaningful partnerships with students, families, and staff to promote a strong sense of community. Student Supervision and Engagement Assistin supervising children during after-school hours, including indoor and outdoor activities. Support students inparticipatingin educational, recreational, and enrichment activities. Encourage positive behavior andmodelrespectful interactions. Help create an inclusive environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth. Assistwith homework support and academic enrichment opportunities. Program Support Help set up,facilitate, andclean upactivities, games, crafts, andspecial events. Support Site Leaders in implementing daily schedules and program plans. Assistwith attendance tracking and student sign-in/sign-out procedures. Prepare materials and supplies needed for activities. Safety and Compliance Monitor students tomaintaina safe and supportive environment. Follow all program policies, safety procedures, and emergency protocols. Immediately report incidents, injuries, concerns, or behavioral issues to the Site Leader. Maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios at all times. Greeting children at their drop off location andsupervisea brief walk to thecampus. Communication and Teamwork Work collaboratively with Site Leaders and other program staff. Build positive relationships with students, families, and school personnel. Communicate student concerns, achievements, and behavioral observations to supervisory staff. Attend staff meetings andrequiredtrainingsas assigned. MinimumRequirements Minimum age of16 years Experience working with children in educational, recreational, camp, childcare, or youth development settings preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Reliable, punctual, and professional. Ability to take initiativeand ownership PreferredSkills & Competencies CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification). Knowledge of positive behavior management practices. Work Environment Schedule Part-time,approximately 18-20hours per week. Typical hours are Monday through Friday during after-school program hours. Occasional attendance at staff meetings, training sessions, and special events may be required. Fast-paced, child-focused environment Indoor classroom and outdoor playground settings Afternoon hours aligned with thepublic schoolcalendar Physical Requirements The After-School Assistant Counselor role requires active involvement in both administrative and classroom environments. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the following physical abilities are required: Abilityto move throughout the school for prolonged periods, including standing and walking for up to 75 percent of the workday. Abilityto transition between sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and squatting throughout the day to engage with children and support staff. Ability to safely lift, carry, and move items up to 30 pounds, including classroom materials, supplies, and occasionalassistancewith children’s belongings. Ability to sit on the floor, engage at a child’s eye level, andparticipatein age-appropriate activities including light running, outdoor play supervision, and interactive learning experiences. Comfort working in a dynamic, sometimes noisy environment with frequent interruptions and regular movement between indoor and outdoor spaces. Ability to supervise children on playgrounds, in classrooms, hallways, entryways, andcommon areas. Ability to respond quickly and safely in emergency situations, including evacuations, drills, and urgent classroom needs.
