Responsibilities

• Follow established procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping of patient test results.
• Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are processed similarly to patient specimens.
• Analyze specimens using approved testing techniques in accordance with department SOPs.
• Review and release test results accurately while adhering to quality control policies.
• Document and perform instrument calibrations, maintenance, and any corrective actions taken during testing.
• Follow safety guidelines outlined by CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and other relevant standards to ensure a safe working environment.
• Identify and resolve issues affecting test performance or reporting, escalating when necessary.
• Report STAT or critical results promptly to clients following departmental procedures.
• Maintain comprehensive records of all testing performed and ensure reagents/test kits are properly labeled with received, opened, and expiration dates.
• Participate in ongoing training, safety sessions, and departmental meetings to stay current with procedures and regulations.
• Assist in inspections and participate in quality assurance activities as needed.
• Maintain the general appearance of the laboratory workspace, ensuring cleanliness and organization.

Required Skills

• Solid understanding of basic and high-complexity laboratory testing procedures.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to work across multiple laboratory information systems.
• Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) practices.
• Ability to review, interpret, and accurately report laboratory test results.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills to identify and address testing issues.

Additional Skills & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field preferred; or an Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from recognized organizations such as ASCP or AMT is highly desirable.
• Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience, preferably in high-complexity testing.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with team members and clients.
• Ability to prioritize multiple procedures and handle shifting demands efficiently.
• Must be able to work in a clinical laboratory setting and comply with safety regulations.
