Nurse Apprentice
The Nurse Apprentice works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) in the clinical setting and participates appropriately in the patient care delivery process. The Nurse Apprentice is expected to work at least 12 hours per week during their last semester, as allowed under the State of Utah guidelines for a Nurse Apprentice.
Must be an RN nursing student who is currently in, or nearing, the final semester of an RN program.

While serving in the NA role, the candidate will have the opportunity to work across all departments in the hospital.
Essential Functions:
Routinely observes, discusses, and demonstrates understanding of the steps in the nursing process and how the patient plan of care is developed, implemented, and revised to meet the needs of the patient (under direct supervision of an RN).
Assessment: Collects patient data (e.g., vital signs) and reports significant changes in patient condition to the supervising RN. Completes accurate documentation, which is verified by the supervising RN.
Evaluation: Reports patient responses to treatments and collaborates with the RN regarding changes requiring modification of nursing interventions to meet patient needs.
May also assist an RN with the following (1:1 supervision required):
Arterial line (ART) line blood draws
Blood transfusion
IV therapy
Oral medication administration
Initiating tube feedings

Minimum Qualifications:
Licensed and registered as a Nurse Apprentice with the state of Utah
Enrolled in an accredited nursing school program
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers
Physical Requirements:
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
