Position Functions
Essential Functions:
- Administer prescribed treatment and medication to inmate/client at any Sheriff's Office facility as needed and medically required within licensing authorization.
- Ensure medications are properly stored, ordered, and available for nursing staff.
- Push a medication cart between locations within the Jail.
- Recognize and report signs and symptoms of a potentially urgent situation.
- Maintain accountability and properly document all medication administered to facility specifications.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of medical records.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all county policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required:
- HS Diploma or GED
- At least 18 years of age.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.
- Preference will be given to those with healthcare experience.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, including over the telephone, in person, and in writing.
- Ability to push/pull a medication cart for up to four hours per shift. When fully loaded, the medication cart weights approximately 200 pounds.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, crouch and lift light objects.
- Must be able to enter data and operate phone.
- Ability to respond to emergent situations, including the ability to run, restrain aggressive or suicidal individuals and manipulate restraint tools.
Additional Information
Work Environment:
- Work is typically performed indoors in a correctional facility. This is a potentially volatile environment with high accountability.
- This position may be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals.
- Work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
- This position will include close interaction with inmates.
