Environmental Underwriter

Position Summary The Environmental Underwriter/Account Executive manages a portfolio of accounts and drives new and renewal business opportunities for Environmental and related casualty insurance. The role assesses risks, evaluates applications, analyses data, and determines coverage terms and premiums to ensure sound underwriting decisions. It also develops underwriting practices and guidelines, maintains broker relationships, and partners with stakeholders in the designated portfolio. Job Responsibilities Underwrite new and renewal environmental and related casualty business, including Commercial General Liability, Environmental Impairment Liability, Contractors’ Pollution Liability, Professional Liability, and Supported and Unsupported Commercial Excess. Analyze policy forms, broker endorsement requests, and documentation per company underwriting standards, obtaining additional information as needed. Determine whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk based on coverage value, location, usage, environmental exposures, safety features, and other relevant factors. Set coverage limits and insurance premiums, policy terms, and conditions based on risk assessment and guidelines, ensuring active portfolio management. Deliver services for new business and renewals with professionalism, technical knowledge, and adherence to underwriting guidelines. Examine, identify, and evaluate exposures and ensure compliance with state and country laws and carrier guidelines. Provide premium forecasts to support budget and performance targets. Maintain existing broker relationships and collaborate across teams on submissions, quotes, declines, binds, and issuance to deliver accurate, timely, and quality service. Build long‑term professional relationships within the portfolio and partner with brokers to create customized insurance solutions. Create opportunities for new business, maximize retention of the assigned portfolio, and ensure timely review of renewal business to achieve targets. Execute marketing activities, attend seminars and training, and stay abreast of market dynamics and underwriting trends. Stay informed about industry trends, emerging risks in the environmental and related casualty sector, terminology, regulations, and adjust underwriting strategies accordingly. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Risk Management, Actuarial or Business Administration (or related discipline). • 5+ years of experience in Environmental and General Liability Package Underwriting. Licenses & Certifications Must meet minimum requirements for state P&C and/or surplus line licenses. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) is a plus. Compensation & Benefits Target salary range: $100,139.00 - $125,174.40 annually.
