Bus Driver

The purpose of this classification is to transport students safely and efficiently to and from District schools. Responsible for maintaining a clean and properly working vehicle, and correcting student behavior as needed.

Transport students safely and efficiently to and from District schools; provide transportation for morning and afternoon routes, as well as for special activities and athletics events.

Monitor students' safety; correct students' behavior as needed; ensure students stay seated on the bus and that hands remain inside the windows at all times; report disciplinary problems.

Assist students on and off bus as needed.

Establish bus routes on a daily basis.

Inspect bus regularly; notify maintenance of any needed bus repairs or issues; report vandalism.

Report accidents and complete accident reports and forms if needed.

Make sure students get off at their correct stops.

Maintain a clean bus; sweep floor, wash windows.

Assist students if they become ill during transport.

Be prepared to handle any possible emergencies.

Participate in staff development programs.

Check mail daily; take mail to schools daily.

Process monthly reports; keep records of mileage and times.

Obey all traffic laws and regulations.

Maintain radio contact with dispatch during routes.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy by the Director of Transportation.
