Sr. Network Engineer - Core IP Engineering

Job Summary Interface with Network Evolving Architecture teams to help lead technical direction for backbone and CRAN evolution, including development of scalable routing architectures (ISIS, BGP, LDP, RSVP TE/Segment Routing), optical transport integration (CDC ROADM, coherent optics, OTN), and the adoption of new IP, MPLS, and Ethernet standards across the Transport and IP layers. The role defines and validates architectural roadmaps, leads lab and field trials, drives beta and launch cycles for integrated voice, video, and data platforms, and supports global peering and network assurance. It operates within a fast‑paced Fortune 50 technology environment and contributes to end‑to‑end engineering that supports millions of customers. Responsibilities Define and validate architectural roadmaps for backbone and CRAN evolution. Lead lab and field trials, driving beta and launch cycles for integrated voice, video, and data platforms. Design and implement telemetry and real‑time analytics for backbone and CRAN. Automate network assurance and optimize traffic flows across global peering, private interconnects, and content ecosystems. Influence standards alignment with IETF, MEF, OIF, and other industry forums. Integrate emerging technologies to improve cost efficiency, programmability, resiliency, and scalability across Comcast’s national footprint. Support global peering ecosystem and ensure seamless connectivity between CRANs and the broader internet. Collaborate cross‑functionally and act as a network technical liaison with adjacent product and engineering teams. Required Skills & Qualifications Senior‑level expertise in core networking technologies: RIB/FIB architectures, ISIS, BGP, LDP, MPLS, Segment Routing, RSVP, and QoS. Full‑stack network knowledge spanning physical through application layers. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex networking environments. Experience engagement with vendors for platform evaluation, feature alignment, and roadmap planning. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, JNCIA, JNCIP, or JNCIE are a plus. Preferred Skills & Qualifications Strong programming and automation experience with Python, Go, and Shell scripting. Experience translating complex networking workflows into automated solutions using Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and Zero‑Touch Provisioning. Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, ArangoDB) and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Linux environments. Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and drive operational integration. Strong organizational and project management skills, effective in matrixed environments.
