Job Summary The Disability Services Specialist is a pivotal role dedicated to ensuring that students with disabilities receive comprehensive support throughout their academic and professional journeys. This position seeks to provide a holistic approach to student development, including conducting intake assessments, developing and monitoring accommodation plans, and engaging the campus community in educational initiatives and trainings about disability services. The goal is to empower students to achieve their academic, personal, and career goals by providing tailored guidance and resources, fostering an inclusive campus environment, and advocating for their needs. Salary Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E3, Grade 4: $39,759 - $57,251 Work Hours Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m.; Friday 7:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive intake meetings to assess students’ needs and determine eligibility for accommodations. Receive, input, and process paperwork promptly; load data into relevant software for tracking and reporting. Communicate with students, faculty, staff, and external parties via email, phone, or in person to provide information, resolve issues, and maintain professionalism. Alert supervisors to issues requiring upper‑management attention. Maintain and organize filing systems, resource materials, inventory, and office equipment. Greet visitors and respond to inquiries in person, via telephone, or e‑mail. Screen and route incoming mail, including email. Ensure confidentiality of office and student information. Proctor tests in the absence of the Director of Student Disability Services. Provide ongoing consultation to faculty and staff to ensure accommodations are effectively implemented and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act is maintained. Support academic and career advising, including course selection, progress monitoring, and offering time‑management and study skills support. Organize and lead workshops on job search strategies, navigating workplace accommodations, and transitioning from college to career. Lead efforts to raise awareness about disability services through campus events, workshops, annual faculty trainings, and information sessions. Maintain detailed records of student interactions and accommodation services to ensure compliance and prepare reports on outcomes. Stay updated on disability services trends and advocate for students within the campus community. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Business Administration, or a related field is required. A minimum of two (2) years of work experience in an administrative or coordinator role, preferably within a higher education setting, is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with database management and record‑keeping systems is required. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with student disability services, counseling practices, and Title IX regulations. Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders. Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information. Knowledge of generally accepted office practices and procedures. Skill in utilizing a multi‑line phone system. Skill in operating a fax machine, copier, scanner, calculator, printer, camera, and scantron. Knowledge of FERPA. Ability to follow instructions and adhere to prescribed routines. Ability to make decisions based on correspondence, data, or other information. Ability to use database software for inputting and locating information. Ability to utilize e‑mail systems to communicate information. Ability to work with minimal supervision/work independently. Ability to operate in a professional manner at all times. Ability to greet individuals of any background with friendliness, tact, and courtesy. Ability to operate in high‑pressure situations and respond to issues in a calm manner. Conscientiousness – wanting to care about how work is done and wanting to do a good job. Initiative – responding to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work. Attention to detail. Friendliness and patience in responding to customer needs. Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that learning. Willingness to maintain flexibility in order to meet customer needs. Positive attitude regardless of circumstances. Confidence in decision making and communication skills. Knowledge of community college policies and procedures. Knowledge of Banner or a related software. Knowledge of rules of grammar.
