Saint Joseph's College of Maine seeks a dynamic individual for the position of Associate Director of Development!
The Associate Director of Development supports the Advancement Office by being responsible for planning, implementing, and growing the Annual Fund; providing management, direction, and strategic support to the Alumni Board and alumni networks; managing a Major Gift portfolio and drives leadership giving; overseeing work-study students for this office; and supports general advancement operations.
Position Responsibilities:
Responsible for planning, implementing, and growing the Annual Fund by:
- Developing the plan and schedule for the annual fund focusing on donor acquisition, retention, and upgrading
- Strategizing, preparing communications, and implementing the College's annual Giving Day online and on campus
- Managing and consistently improving direct mail marketing, e-philanthropy, digital media, and website giving strategies using tools like Boost My School and Raiser's Edge
- Preparing reports and comparative year-over-year analyses on unrestricted giving for distribution to the Board of Trustees, SVPIA, and other constituent groups
- Managing and motivating the Community Rising Committee to empower volunteers to help with fundraising initiatives in support of the Annual Fund
Provides management, direction, and strategic support to the Alumni Board and alumni networks by:
- Serving as the primary liaison and managing the operations, meetings, and strategic goals of the Alumni Board
- Developing and implementing plans to engage alumni classes in annual fund participation and class gifts
- Collaborating with staff to coordinate regional alumni events, reunions, and monthly communication channels (such as the alumni email newsletter)
Manages a Major Gift portfolio and drives leadership giving by:
- Identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major gift prospects and current donors
- Utilizing systematic moves management to transition leadership annual donors into major gift pipelines
- Aligning donor passions with the strategic priorities and funding needs of the College
- Collaborating with the SVPIA and CFO on revenue projections and campaign goals
Provides supervision of the development staff including work-study students and supports general advancement operations by:
- Recruiting and training quality staff
- Coaching and mentoring staff in setting goals, creating action plans, and time management while fostering a team environment
- Ensuring service excellence and a collaborative team environment within the office
- Inspiring new thinking, a creative approach and the highest possible standards of performance
- Managing performance including conducting performance reviews, coaching sessions, and disciplinary actions in a professional and timely manner
- Managing timely approval of bi-weekly timesheets and time off request processes
- Participate in the planning and execution of advancement-related events; (ie – Homecoming, Monkstoberfest, Mercy Hospital Nursing Reunion, etc.)
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Extensive experience using Raiser's Edge preferred
- Proven track record in major gift portfolio management, moves management, and closing high-level gifts
- Successful experience managing annual giving programs, phonathons, direct mail, and campus-wide Giving Day events
- Demonstrated experience working with boards, volunteers, and managing higher education events
- Must have a valid driver's license, complete a driver training program and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
Schedule:
- This full-time 35/hour week position works primarily Monday through Friday but also requires maximum schedule flexibility to attend and facilitate weekend and evening events and meetings
- Willingness to staff evening and weekend plus occasional regional events
- Must be able to provide own transportation to campus and various off campus events
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Strong working knowledge of various computer software packages, especially MS Office and ability to quickly learn other packages
- Strong working knowledge of the multifaceted programs within the Raiser's Edge system
- Strong understanding of all appropriate social media tools
- Demonstrated competency in the use of data effectively for planning and decision making
- Demonstrated style of collaboration, commitment to teamwork, a willingness to help others, and exceptional listening and communication skills
