Senior Account Engineer Property

Job Category: Risk Control Compensation Salary Range: $126,500.00 – $208,700.00 What Is the Opportunity? Under general supervision, designs and oversees the delivery of valued and high quality Property Risk Control services to assigned large National Property accounts and clients country‑wide. This includes activities in support of acquisition of new business, loss prevention throughout the policy term to achieve or maintain profitability, identification of past losses and potential trends or emerging issues, and account retention through value delivered by Risk Control. The position handles the most difficult and demanding accounts and influences but does not manage others. What Will You Do? Maintain a consistent field presence, spending approximately 20%–50% of the time onsite with customers. Traveling to customers may entail long‑distance, overnight travel, or multi‑night trips depending on the needs of the business and alignment with territory and/or geography. Serve as client contact and consult with them on strategies for controlling hazards to reduce or prevent losses. Influence clients to implement recommendations. Develop comprehensive plans for services to be delivered, appropriate resources to be used, and negotiate with and manage client expectations to achieve an appropriate balance between service and cost. Develop meaningful, impactful, timely and professional Risk Control Service Plans, Service Summaries, and Mid‑Term Reviews and related account correspondence. Provide Risk Control Service Instructions as necessary for quality and service delivery by our country‑wide RC staff. Provide technical advice and account information to National Property Underwriters for risk assessment and analysis. Maintain current knowledge of account losses, emerging issues relevant to the account, operational changes, and property hazards and protection issues associated with them for assigned accounts. Act in an autonomous capacity and in close communication with National Property Underwriters for their assigned account list, plus the Property Director, serving as a resource to the Underwriter in development of insurance deals and account retention strategies. Assist with presentations to potential and current insureds to demonstrate a Risk Control value proposition tailored to the needs of the account. Build and maintain productive relationships with underwriting and service teams, broker/agent community, Claim Account Executives, and other Risk Control staff as appropriate. Develop and document success stories relating to measurable reductions in loss expectancies and improvement in protection at account locations. Take initiative to mentor other employees servicing assigned accounts. Function as a field Property Specialist as workload demands and/or to better service assigned accounts. Perform other duties as assigned. What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have? Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Eight or more years of Property/Highly Protected Risk (HPR) skills and experience. Communication skills: timely and responsive communications, attention to detail in written communications, effective negotiation on service issues, ability to make complex technical information understandable to audiences with varied technical knowledge, influence others to act on recommendations, effective listening, initiative to keep partners informed of emerging account issues, exceptional interpersonal skills with clients and business partners. Business knowledge: understand Commercial Lines insurance products, fully understand Risk Control performance standards and service products, understand the business plans for each marketing business unit. Resource management: make sound judgments about appropriate service levels for customers, assess resource requirements and manage deployment of resources, assess workload continuously, direct own efforts accordingly, identify methods to improve personal productivity and share with staff. Customer service: balance customer expectations and expense constraints, build credibility with customers, create customer satisfaction by demonstrating the value of Risk Control services. Technical expertise: maintain proficiency in technical knowledge, including new exposures, controls, and emerging issues related to property loss prevention and protection best practices. Mastery of the Account Consultant Workstation and all relevant Risk Control computer systems. Analytical skills: identify opportunities to market Risk Control services, analyze loss information to identify root causes and develop appropriate corrective actions to reduce or eliminate the likelihood of recurrence. What Is a Must Have? Five years of experience in fire science or a technical science, an engineering discipline, or the property fire protection field. Valid driver’s license.
