Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust  test automation frameworks for web, API, mobile, and backend applications.

• Develop automated test scripts using languages such as  Java, Python, JavaScript, or C# .

• Create and maintain UI automation using tools such as  Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress .

• Develop comprehensive  API automation using tools/frameworks such as REST Assured, Postman, or equivalent.

• Perform functional, regression, integration, system, and end-to-end testing.

• Design test strategies, test plans, test scenarios, and automation approaches for complex applications.

• Integrate automated tests into  CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.

• Identify, troubleshoot, and root-cause application and automation failures.

• Collaborate with developers to improve  testability, code quality, and overall product reliability .

• Perform database/backend validation using  SQL and appropriate database tools.

• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on automation and test architecture.

• Implement test reporting, logging, screenshots, and failure diagnostics to improve automation visibility.

• Identify opportunities to increase automation coverage and reduce manual testing effort.

• Mentor junior QA/SDET engineers and contribute to automation best practices.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.

• Work with engineering teams to ensure quality throughout the  software development lifecycle .

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in software testing, QA automation, or SDET roles.

• Strong programming experience in at least one language such as  Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C# .

• Strong hands-on experience with  Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar automation frameworks .

• Strong experience with  API testing and automation .

• Experience designing and developing  automation frameworks from scratch or significantly enhancing existing frameworks .

• Strong understanding of  OOP, data structures, exception handling, and programming fundamentals .

• Experience with  Git/GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket and source-control best practices.

• Hands-on experience with  CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution.

• Good knowledge of  SQL and database validation .

• Experience working in  Agile/Scrum environments .

• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, defect lifecycle, and QA processes.

• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with  Docker and Kubernetes .

• Experience testing  microservices and distributed systems .

• Knowledge of  AWS, Azure, or GCP .

• Experience with performance testing tools such as  JMeter, Gatling, or k6 .

• Experience with  Kafka or other messaging systems .

• Familiarity with  BDD frameworks such as Cucumber.

• Experience with test reporting and observability tools.

• Exposure to  AI-assisted testing or modern test automation practices .

• Experience leading automation initiatives or mentoring SDET/QA engineers.
