Rad Tech Reg, PRN Days (Outpatient)

Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Work Hours: PRN position at outpatient center, Monday - Friday (Wednesday preferred) as needed to cover for core staff during time off. Location: Advanced Imaging Center - WellStar Kennestone Campus 60 Lacy Street Marietta, GA 30060 Job Summary: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Assist with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Patient Care Obtain complete clinical history, gather examination data and assess for contraindicating conditions. Follow established procedures for the administration of contrast media to prevent patient deterioration and undue pain. Ensure that all studies have proper patient identification and right and left markers are utilized appropriately. Review radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and release patients. Respond to emergency situations and provide for restocking of the crash cart and maintenance of life support equipment if applicable. Assist other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observe patient condition and properly evaluate situations when physician intervention is necessary to prevent misjudgment. Verify two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical order prior to performing a procedure per policy. Ensure patient’s privacy and comfort settings are accommodated. Demonstrate competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age. Organize schedule, time and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Use critical thinking skills. Ask clarifying questions and seek clarification on ambiguous orders. Understand, demonstrate and document preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate. Demonstrate and understand pre-and-post procedural care. Prep the patient for the procedure. Demonstrate and understand sterile technique when applicable. Maintain competency with venipuncture when applicable. Equipment Demonstrate ability to adjust technique for lowest possible ionizing radiation dose while maintaining image quality. Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor or service provider for timely correction. Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment per infection control policy and department schedule. Operate all aspects of the system safely and competently, ensuring equipment is left in good working order. Education and Communication Patiently and clearly explain purpose and nature of exam to patient using AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Discuss, Explain, and Thank you). Address patient questions, concerns or contraindications satisfactorily, notifying physician when necessary. Participate in orientation and training of departmental employees. Provide patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures. Complete documentation concisely, legibly and with precise terminology. Read daily scheduled emails and follow through assignments. Complete mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education without prompting. Quality Control Consistently produce high quality images with appropriate collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration and positioning. Ensure equipment is fully operational before use by checking calibration and operating deficiencies. Send all studies to PACS; print CDs as necessary. Ensure all exams are complete in RIS with correct labeling. Print and scan after-hours teleradiography studies into PACS, if applicable. Check for prior exams and ensure proper labeling before sending to PACS. Operations Restock linens and supplies, maintain imaging services in clean and orderly condition. Transport, position, and help patients on and off procedure tables. Perform patient charging activities on service day. Apply shielding, supportive and immobilization devices. Provide knowledge and assistance to others upon request, boosting departmental efficiency. Perform routine clerical and support duties when warranted. Keep supervisor informed of responsibilities and issues promptly. Maintain individual productivity rates equal to coworkers. Maintain Joint Commission and other regulatory agency standards. Transfer / retrieve images on the PACS system. Takes call when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. Compliance Comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education: Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology. Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. ARRT Radiography Basic Life Support or BLS Instructor Required Minimum Experience: Less than 1 year entry level up to 5 years experience. Must have experience within the past seven (7) years. Required Minimum Skills: Must exhibit excellent communication skills for frequent verbal and written interactions with physicians, patients, visitors, departmental staff and nursing staff. Provide and discuss clinical information routinely. Must explain or give directions to maintain goodwill and obtain cooperation. Function independently and under pressure while participating in a team environment. Exhibit excellent customer service skills at all times. Perform effectively in a stressful and fast‑paced work environment. Prioritize appropriately. Be detail oriented and effectively multitask throughout the shift. Communicate professionally with a variety of customers, including patients, families, co‑workers, volunteers and physicians. Comply with hospital policies and established protocols.
