Radiology Tech - X-Ray Tech

The X-Ray Tech performs standard diagnostic radiographic exams to aid in patient assessment. The role works in hospital, clinic, or outpatient imaging settings and focuses on safe exam completion and timely image delivery.

Responsibilities include patient positioning, exposure selection, image quality optimization, and collaboration with radiologists and other clinicians. The tech adheres to radiation safety and documentation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine radiographic exams (AP/PA, oblique, lateral) with proper positioning
  • Adjust exposure factors to achieve diagnostic-quality images while minimizing radiation dose
  • Prepare the room, equipment, and supplies; maintain clean, organized imaging spaces
  • Verify patient identity and exam details; process and transfer images to PACS
  • Maintain radiation safety protocols and use shielding as appropriate
  • Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and technologists to meet imaging needs
  • Document procedures and image quality in the medical record
  • Provide patient instructions and comfort during imaging

Qualifications

Education:

Associate degree in Radiologic Technology; bachelor's degree preferred by some employers.

Licensure:

State licensure or certification as a Radiologic Technologist is required where applicable.

Certifications:

  • ARRT Certification in Radiography (R)
  • CPR/BLS

Experience or Skills:

Experience performing diagnostic radiographs in acute care or outpatient settings; proficiency with digital radiography and PACS; strong attention to detail and patient communication.

Experience

  • Experience performing chest, extremity, and spine radiographs in hospital or clinic
  • Experience operating digital radiography systems and PACS
  • Experience ensuring image quality and patient safety

Preferred

  • Fluoroscopy or portable radiography experience
  • Pediatric or trauma imaging experience
  • EMR and PACS proficiency

Work Environment

Imaging department or outpatient radiology suite with regular interaction with radiologists and nursing staff. Fast-paced, team-based workflow with rotating shifts and on-call coverage in some settings.

Adherence to radiation safety, patient privacy, and regulatory standards is essential. Documentation is completed in the electronic medical record system.

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods and assisting with patient transfers when needed.
