Cardiology Technologist II

Job Summary The Cardiology Tech in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory supports invasive cardiovascular procedures and provides basic patient care under the direction of a professional nurse. Responsibilities include technical support during procedures, patient preparation, post‑procedural care, inventory management, and communication with patients and staff. Key Responsibilities Provide general patient care: comfort, hygiene, monitor vital signs, perform EKG, assist admissions and discharges. Perform technical support: connect patients to EKG monitors, set up arterial/venous lines, operate hemodynamic monitors, video/imaging systems, contrast injectors, and other cath lab equipment. Maintain equipment and supplies: ensure proper storage, empty trash, coordinate with housekeeping and maintenance. Assist with catheter and sheath removal: assess groin site, compress arteries, provide post‑procedure instructions. Support inventory: order supplies, send items for sterilization, assist inventory counts. Communicate effectively: relay patient status to nurses, document procedures, answer phone calls, provide courteous service to patients and visitors. Practice safety and infection control: use universal precautions, dispose hazardous waste, maintain a clean environment, identify patients correctly, clean procedure rooms between cases. Assist with service standards: demonstrate care, maintain confidentiality, collaborate with colleagues, provide cost‑effective services. Participate in performance improvement: assist unit‑based PI plans, collect data, develop action plans. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Radiology Technologist registration preferred; CCI credential for Cath lab appreciated. Previous Cath Lab experience required. BLS certification required; ALS preferred. Job Specifications Work environment: regularly exposed to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, and hazardous waste. Requires protective apparel: lead aprons, eye protection, gloves, masks. Work may involve irregular hours and emergency care. Physical Requirements Prolonged standing/walking; lifting up to 50 lbs. Use of reach, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching.
