Industrial Hygiene Technician

What your job will be like: In support of the ESH Division Industrial Hygiene program at Jefferson Lab, this position will provide support to Jefferson Lab by assisting in the management of hazardous materials, conducting industrial hygiene monitoring, and providing training to JLab staff for industrial hygiene related programs. Performs workplace exposure monitoring and handling of hazardous materials according to Federal, State, and Local regulations and DOE contractual requirements. This position is responsible for providing respiratory protection equipment specific training to lab staff. In this job you will:

• Support hazardous materials management program through chemical inventories and safety data sheet management.
• Conducts workplace measurements using standard IH equipment to sample or directly assess hazard levels.
• Conducts basic maintenance and pre-operational testing of IH equipment.
• Perform IH instrument calibrations.
• Inspection of engineering controls and emergency equipment such as fume hoods, SCBAs, safety showers/eyewashes.
• Provide hazard communication signs for the lab.Additional Responsibilities
• Assists in the development of IH related procedures.
• Inventories materials and equipment, including specialized PPE maintained by IH group.
• Conducts workplace hazard evaluations/work observations.Experience
• Required: 5 or more years Industrial Hygiene/ESH fieldEducation
• Required: High School DiplomaKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow detailed technical instructions for the disassembly, cleaning, maintenance, reassembly, and functional testing of Industrial Hygiene equipment and specialized personal protective equipment.
• Ability to read and follow technical procedures for the conduct of workplace measurements to assess worker exposure to hazardous substances and physical stressors.
• Ability to interact with others in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation and participation.
• Ability to document work performed in standard computer based tools.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
