Primary Function The Custodial Assistant, within the Facilities and Operations Office, reports to the Director of Facilities and Operations and is a full-time 12-month position. This position helps to maintain school buildings and grounds in an outstanding condition to ensure full and productive use of School facilities. This position performs custodial duties as assigned on the School’s campus including the Head of School’s house and Home Winds. The Custodial Assistant must work closely with faculty, staff, and administration. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Performs custodial work as needed, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning, vacuuming, trash removal and sanitizing within all School facilities including classrooms, bathrooms, dining areas, athletic areas, stairwells, offices and the Head of School residence. Operates machinery such as vacuum machines, carpet shampooers, scrubbing and polishing machines, and other custodial equipment as necessary. Requires the ability to work with cleaning materials and supplies. Provides exceptional customer service to all members of the School community. Communicates effectively with all members of the School and School community. Performs custodial duties on the School campus including Home Winds and the Head of School’s house. Reacts to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. Works at School events and Head of School receptions as needed. Requires some work outside of normal work hours as needed. General Responsibilities Assist in maintaining School campus in top condition. Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in School buildings and grounds. Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency while performing duties and responsibilities. Work when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the School and other specific events such as Commencement, Family Day, Auction, and others. Adhere to all School health and safety policies. Able to operate in a team environment, effectively interacting with all employees, students, and families. Other Duties and Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Operations, Chief Financial Officer, and Head of School. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requires prolonged standing and walking. Physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push objects or materials up to 25 lbs unassisted. Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, climbing, balancing, and reaching. Must work in noisy and crowded environments. Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors. Requires knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to custodial work. Must be able to drive mechanical vehicles. Requires the ability to follow instructions. Must pass criminal background check. Training and Experience A high school diploma. Minimum of 2 years' experience in custodial work. Ability to read product labels and instructions. Ability to read material safety data sheets (MSDS). Working knowledge of computer use and email systems. Ability to initiate and complete work orders. Experience in a school setting is preferred. Compensation range: $40,000 - $41,000. Further consideration may be given to candidates with significant teaching experience, education, or certifications.
