Responsibilities Provide guidance on all aspects of architecture, to include issues involving code compliance, planning, design, and construction. Develop construction documents for complex buildings and projects. Review architectural features of Architectural‑Engineering designs. Analyze and design sophisticated and technically challenging features of District's projects. Civil works designs include such projects as visitor and maintenance facilities, warehouses, flood control facilities, and recreational facilities. Military designs cover a variety of buildings including barracks, fire stations, administrative facilities, medical facilities, security‑related facilities, access and entry control points, family housing, special test facilities, etc. Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must possess and maintain a current Professional Architect license/registration. This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time. Qualifications Basic Education Requirement for Architecture Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in architecture or a related field that included 60 semester hours of coursework in architecture or related disciplines, of which at least 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and 6 semester hours in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. Combination of Education and Experience College‑level education, training, or technical experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their application to design and construction or improvement of buildings. Adequacy must be demonstrated by at least one of: (1) Relevant curriculum – degree in architectural engineering providing knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to those required above, or (2) Experience – 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from an architecture program. In absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. Specialized Experience One year of specialized experience including: (1) developing designs of buildings and architectural systems for new and remodeled facilities; and (2) utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, 3D modeling and rendering software, and 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) Software Applications to develop concept designs, interim designs, final designs, and construction documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in federal service (GS‑11). Foreign Education If using foreign education to meet qualifications, credentials must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs, and deemed equivalent to an accredited U.S. education program. Other Requirements Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Salary includes applicable locality pay or local market supplement.
