Scale House Attendant
The Environment and Energy Department are seeking a Scale House Attendant to process commercial hauler transactions at the Brooklyn Park Transfer Station and at the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) and process resident transactions for our citizen drop-off facilities. These facilities provide an opportunity for residents to properly manage household hazardous waste, recyclables, and problem materials like computers, televisions, and appliances.

Location and hours: This position will be performed at all the following sites: Brooklyn Park Transfer Station (BPTS), 8100 Jefferson Hwy Brooklyn Park, MN, South Hennepin Recycling and Problem Waste Drop-off Center, 1400 West 96th Street, Bloomington, MN, and/or Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC), 505 N 5th Street, Minneapolis, MN. Public transportation is only available at HERC. There is no public transportation at the other two sites. This part-time position has a 20 - 30 hours per week schedule. The HERC site operates seven days a week with shifts beginning at 3:45 am. BPTS and South Hennepin are open Monday-Saturday. Candidates must be available to work all shifts at all locations.
About the position type:
This is a limited duration (temporary) part-time, non-benefit earning position expected to last up to two years. This position is internally classified as an Office Specialist I. Click here to view the job classification specification.
In this position, you will:
- Operate Point of Sale (POS), process financial transactions.
- Greet residents and commercial haulers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Record all business transactions efficiently.
- Answer customer questions professionally, by phone or in person.
- Multi-task various duties while working in the scale house.
- Communicate with external partners and vendors.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- One or more full-time equivalent years of office clerical experience.
- Six months of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program.
- Note: Education may be substituted for experience on a semester (12 credits) basis.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and stand for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Nice to have:
- Experience with:
- Scale House Software Paradigm or CompuWeigh.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or Access.
- Using call center systems.
- Providing customer service in person and by telephone.
- Perform cash transactions or processing electronic payments.
- Ability to:
- Work in a high-volume customer service center.
- Record all commercial hauler and citizen transactions in the county computer system Paradigm software.
- Follow detailed instructions.
- Work independently with minimal direction.
