Position Summary
The Athletics Director/Truancy Officer supports student success by promoting strong student engagement, accountability, attendance, and participation in the school community. This position provides leadership and oversight for Crossroads Charter Schools’ athletic programs while also leading efforts to improve student attendance and address chronic absenteeism and truancy.
As Athletics Director , this position plans, coordinates, and manages athletic programs across Crossroads Charter Schools, including the supervision and support of coaches, athletic coordinators, student-athletes, and athletic events. The Athletics Director ensures programs reflect the mission and values of Crossroads Charter Schools while promoting academic achievement, sportsmanship, belonging, teamwork, and high expectations.
As Truancy Officer , this position works collaboratively with students, families, school leaders, and student-support teams to promote consistent attendance, identify and address barriers to school participation, and provide appropriate interventions for students experiencing chronic absenteeism or truancy. The position maintains required documentation and supports compliance with school policies and applicable attendance and compulsory education requirements.
Position Responsibilities
Athletics Director
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve athletic programs aligned with the mission, values, and goals of Crossroads Charter Schools.
- Direct and coordinate athletic programs, schedules, services, and activities across the organization.
- Ensure compliance with Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) regulations, requirements, deadlines, and correspondence.
- Coordinate student-athlete and coach orientations, conditioning programs, training, and other athletic programming.
- Coordinate athletic events and ensure appropriate game management for all home competitions.
- Attend home athletic events and competitions as the designated game administrator or ensure a qualified game administrator is assigned.
- Develop and maintain the master athletics calendar in collaboration with school-based athletic coordinators and coaches.
- Oversee athletic communications, including the athletics handbook, schedules, website content, bulletins, and other publications.
- Manage student-athlete eligibility in partnership with principals, athletic staff, coaches, students, and families.
- Maintain required student-athlete documentation, including physical examinations, parent/guardian permission forms, eligibility records, rosters, and other required materials.
- Support coaches and student-athletes in meeting MSHSAA requirements and established deadlines.
- Coordinate the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation of coaches and athletic personnel.
- Develop the annual athletics department budget and monitor athletic expenditures.
- Serve as the primary liaison with conference, community, and state organizations related to athletics.
- Promote community involvement, service, and positive representation of Crossroads Charter Schools through athletic programs.
- Collaborate with school leaders and staff to promote both the academic and athletic success of student-athletes.
- Establish and uphold expectations for sportsmanship, student conduct, teamwork, belonging, and personal responsibility.
- Monitor athletic program outcomes and identify opportunities to strengthen student participation, academic performance, and athletic achievement.
- Oversee the coordination of transportation for athletic practices, competitions, and other athletic events, ensuring timely and effective communication with coaches, student-athletes, families, and transportation providers.
- Oversee and coordinate concession procedures for athletic events, including staffing, inventory, cash-handling expectations, and adherence to established school procedures.
Attendance & Truancy
- Monitor student attendance data to identify patterns of absenteeism, chronic absence, tardiness, and potential truancy.
- Develop and coordinate proactive attendance strategies designed to improve daily attendance and student engagement.
- Work collaboratively with school leaders, teachers, counselors, social workers, and other student-support staff to identify and address attendance concerns.
- Establish timely, consistent, and supportive communication with parents and guardians regarding student attendance.
- Conduct attendance conferences with students and families and develop attendance improvement plans when appropriate.
- Identify barriers affecting regular school attendance and connect students and families with appropriate school or community-based resources and supports.
- Conduct appropriate outreach, including home visits when necessary and consistent with school policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation of attendance interventions, family contacts, conferences, notices, referrals, and follow-up activities.
- Prepare and communicate required attendance and truancy notices in accordance with Crossroads Charter Schools policies and applicable requirements.
- Monitor the progress of students receiving attendance interventions and adjust strategies based on student and family needs.
- Coordinate with appropriate external agencies or authorities when required and after appropriate school-based interventions have been implemented.
- Prepare and maintain documentation necessary for truancy referrals, hearings, audits, or other attendance-related proceedings.
- Provide school leaders with regular information regarding attendance trends, intervention outcomes, and students requiring additional support.
- Support districtwide efforts to build a culture in which students feel known, valued, connected, and motivated to attend school consistently.
- Maintain student and family confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, school policy, and applicable law.

- Serve as a collaborative member of the school leadership team and contribute to strategies that strengthen student engagement, attendance, achievement, and belonging.
- Build positive and productive relationships with students, families, staff, coaches, and community partners.
- Demonstrate strong organization, communication, follow-through, judgment, and attention to detail.
- Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a student-centered approach.
- Participate in meetings, training, and professional development as required.
- Meet professional obligations through effective planning, communication, coordination, and timely completion of responsibilities.
- Act professionally and ethically at all times and comply with Crossroads Charter Schools policies, procedures, expectations, and applicable laws.
