Mechanical Project EngineerIMEG is hiring a Mechanical Project Engineer in Charlotte, NC, to lead design efforts on low- to moderate-complexity projects in the vertical building industry and support the delivery of larger, high-complexity projects with senior staff. This role is responsible for providing engineering solutions and client guidance through the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems to help deliver positive project outcomes. You'll also work within project budgets, mentor team members, and collaborate across functions to meet project goals and client expectations.Principal ResponsibilitiesLead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems in accordance with applicable codes and IMEG standardsDevelop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and toolsPartner with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong working relationshipsSupport consulting project execution through project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activitiesDocument design decisions and client direction while tracking project progress against percent complete and fee expendedAnalyze engineering challenges and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical, efficient solutionsPerform in-process reviews of system designs, calculations, and specifications and apply IMEG quality control processesStay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering and contribute to innovation effortsIdentify and mitigate safety risks associated with mechanical systems and prioritize safety in all aspects of workCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that align with project goalsIdentify potential project issues and seek guidance from the Project Manager as neededSupport projects through bidding and construction administration phasesRequired Qualifications and SkillsBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) License required2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry (years of experience may vary based on state license qualifications)Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsStrong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systemsAbility to train and mentor less experienced staffProficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation softwareExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) softwareProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight staysThis position is not eligible for sponsorship.Why Join UsIMEG puts people first—with a strong focus on career growth, work-life balance, and meaningful impact.
