Purchaser/Estimator

The Purchaser/Estimator role is responsible for producing estimates, procuring materials and services, and supporting production planning activities in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner. This position reports to the Estimating Manager and works closely with production, scheduling, sales, and operations teams to support the overall success of the company. Day to day, this role is responsible for generating estimates and purchase orders while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with production requirements. The Purchaser/Estimator participates in planning and scheduling activities as needed and supports communication between departments to help ensure projects move efficiently through the facility. In addition to the daily responsibilities of estimating and purchasing, this role is responsible for helping maintain a user-friendly estimating environment that encourages sales representatives to bring opportunities to the company. This is a teaching-oriented role that requires assisting representatives in identifying missing details and job requirements without compromising customer service levels or creating unnecessary obstacles in the estimating process. The Purchaser/Estimator is also responsible for monitoring activity, identifying trends and opportunities, and ensuring that all quote letters and estimate documentation are accurate, descriptive, and representative of the work to be produced. As part of the planning process, this role reviews jobs for accuracy, generates layouts when required, verifies production plans, and helps ensure jobs are prepared to run efficiently through the facility. This position also supports inventory planning efforts by helping establish and maintain appropriate inventory levels throughout the year. This role requires the ability to read and interpret cost sheets and make recommendations regarding production methods, purchasing strategies, inventory management, and estimating standards when improvements or adjustments are necessary. Responsibilities Produce accurate and timely estimates and purchase orders Procure materials and outside services in a cost-effective manner Participate in production planning and scheduling activities as needed Review jobs for accuracy and verify production plans Generate layouts and planning documentation when required Maintain accurate and descriptive quote documentation Assist sales representatives in gathering complete job specifications Monitor estimating and purchasing activity to identify trends and opportunities Support inventory planning and inventory level management Read and interpret cost sheets and recommend process improvements Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and special projects Assist with the creation, correction, and distribution of process documentation Intangibles This role is expected to participate in the ongoing process of discovery and improvement that examines, questions, and challenges processes that deserve attention.
