Hematologist/Oncologist Opportunity

The Birmingham Department of Veterans Affairs, a major teaching affiliate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is seeking a full-time Hematologist/Oncologist to join our growing team. This position offers a meaningful blend of clinical care, teaching, and the opportunity to shape the future of oncology services for Veterans in Alabama.

Position Highlights

Serve as a core faculty member for the UAB Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, with active involvement in teaching and supervising fellows.
Provide high quality patient care, including:
Oversight of the infusion center during clinical sessions
Participation in the inpatient consult service alongside fellows
Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration through the Cancer Committee and tumor boards.
Contribute to institutional initiatives such as quality improvement projects and committee service.
Participate in an equitable on call consultation, with after hours and weekend rounding being very uncommon.
Must be board certified/eligible in oncology and/or hematology

Research & Program Development

The oncology section currently has no active clinical trials-establishing this program is a major strategic priority.
Extensive support is available through our VA Research Service, offering a strong foundation for candidates who wish to pursue clinical research or program development.

Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Subject to change based on agency needs.
