ELEVATOR MECHANIC HELPER

On June 16 2022 Governor Kathy Hochul signed the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust Act which authorized the creation of the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust (the Trust). The Trust is a public benefit corporation that will oversee the renovation and rehabilitation of the Citys public housing developments owned by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). NYCHA will remain the permanent owner of the land/buildings and will enter a long-term ground lease with the Trust to secure Section 8 vouchers.

The selected staff member will be a NYCHA employee assigned to Nostrand Houses and will work on behalf of the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust. The selected Elevator Mechanic Helper will support the Elevator Mechanic and under direct supervision assist in the maintenance and repair of electrically and/or hydraulically powered passenger and/or freight elevators.

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Assist the Elevator Mechanic in making mechanical and electrical repairs and adjustments to the elements and components of passenger and freight elevators which include cables sheaves glands motors generators starters relays and controls brakes solenoids safeties etc
2. Conduct routine inspections of elevator equipment in a preventative maintenance program
3. Use the tools and instruments essential to elevator maintenance and repair work
4. Clean work areas
5. Perform related duties.

Note: Preferred candidates are those already serving and experienced in title.

NOTE: IF THIS APPOINTMENT IS MADE ON A PROVISIONAL BASIS PURSUANT TO 65 OF THE NYS CIVIL SERVICE LAW NO TENURE OR PERMANENCE ACCRUES TO AN INCUMBENT IN THIS POSITION BY VIRTUE OF SUCH APPOINTMENT.

ELEVATOR MECHANIC HELPER - 90711

Qualifications :

1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last ten years in the maintenance repair and/or installation of passenger or freight elevators; or


2. At least two years of experience as described in 1 above plus at least 600 hours of training in the maintenance repair and/or installation of passenger or freight elevators acquired in a trade school technical school or vocational high school approved by a states Department of Education or comparable agency to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience; or


3. Satisfactory completion of an approved career ladder training program for Elevator Mechanics Helpers sponsored by the New York City Housing Authority.


Driver License Requirement: You must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment. If you have moving violations a license suspension or an accident record you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
