Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN)

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in the Pediatric ICU. The role requires critical thinking, advanced clinical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.

Qualifications

• Required Licensure: Current RN License eligible for licensure in Missouri or currently licensed in Missouri.
• Required Certifications:
  • BLS from AHA
  • PALS from AHA
  • TNCC
• Preferred Certifications: N/A
• Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years in PICU; vent competent with at least 1 year of post-orientation experience.
• Float Requirements: Will work in NICU, PICU, pediatric medical floor, or Pediatric ED based on patient volumes.

Job Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process to provide direct patient care activities for all age groups, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Monitor and coordinate patient care activities with ancillary departments to ensure optimal patient care and comfort.
• Evaluate the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers.
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.
• Function within the scope of nursing preparation as per the established guidelines and the Missouri Nurse Practice Act.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Candidates should demonstrate clinical expertise in their area of responsibility.

Working Conditions

Ability to stand and walk most of the time; must be capable of lifting and pushing patients on stretchers and in wheelchairs. The role usually takes place in a clean, air-conditioned environment. Physical demands include the ability to push, pull, grip, and the ability to kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally.

Additional Information

Night shift nurses will orient during day shifts and must be available for the entire week of orientation.
