Registered Respiratory Therapist

Presbyterian Healthcare Services, a non-profit healthcare system based in Albuquerque, NM, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high-quality respiratory care to patients across acute and, when needed, critical care settings, supporting our mission to improve community health and deliver exceptional, safe, and patient-centered care.

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, interpret clinical data, and collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to develop and implement evidence-based respiratory care plans. Your responsibilities will include administering oxygen and other therapeutic gases, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy, and airway clearance techniques, as well as managing invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients as appropriate to your assignment and competencies. You will perform and interpret basic and advanced pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gas sampling, analyzing results to guide treatment decisions and communicate findings clearly to the medical team.

You will be expected to respond promptly and effectively to respiratory emergencies, including rapid response and code blue situations, assisting with airway management, intubation support, and resuscitation efforts while adhering to established clinical protocols and patient safety standards. You will regularly assess patients’ respiratory status, document care accurately in the electronic medical record, adjust treatment plans based on patient response, and provide patient and family education regarding respiratory conditions, equipment use, and self-management strategies to support optimal outcomes after discharge.

Working within Presbyterian Healthcare’s culture of respect, integrity, accountability, and quality, you will follow all infection prevention practices, maintain and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment, ensure proper calibration and function of ventilators and monitoring systems, and report any equipment issues promptly. You will collaborate in interdisciplinary rounds, contribute to discharge planning when respiratory needs are involved, and support quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving respiratory outcomes, reducing hospital readmissions, and enhancing patient safety.

This position is based primarily in a field/on-site clinical environment within Presbyterian facilities in New Mexico and may involve rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure continuous patient coverage.
