Position: Accountant I Location: Mattoon, IL Job Id: 4728 # of Openings: 0 At First Mid, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of discretionary short-term incentives (i.e. bonus, incentives, and/or commission). The Accountant I is responsible for various accounting applications of the Bank and Company. The Accountant I works closely with supervisor to perform assigned tasks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responsible for performing various accounting functions as assigned in accordance with internal controls, procedures and policies of the accounting department. Performs various procedures related to month end closing process including variance analysis and preparing and recording recurring journal entries. Prepares general ledger account reconciliations as assigned. Prepares various reports and analysis as assigned. Reviews data contained in the general ledger and various sub-systems to ensure accuracy and reasonableness of recorded financial transactions; research questions regarding general ledger information from various personnel. Acts as back up for various accounting functions as assigned. Completes required training associated with job functions. Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Education: Some accounting course work required; Associate's degree preferred. Experience: Some accounting experience preferred. Skills: Basic level of knowledge of accounting. High level of interpersonal skills so as to effectively communicate accounting issues to employees, management and outside vendors. Good analytical skills in order to analyze financial and procedural data. Adequate knowledge of internal policies and procedures and any respective laws and regulations governing accounting functions to ensure performance of job duties within the proper control environment.
