The Maintenance Mechanic provides timely, cost-effective maintenance services within a large distribution center environment. This role focuses on maintaining and repairing conveyor systems and related mechanical and electrical components, performing preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities, and supporting smooth warehouse operations through proactive troubleshooting and responsive service to associates.
Responsibilities
- Replace and repair belts, lacing, pins, motors, gearboxes, chains, air valves, rollers, line shafts, accumulators, photo eyes, and other conveyor components.
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints and schematics to support troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Assist in repairing and maintaining conveyor systems and sorters to ensure consistent material flow.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues and basic plumbing problems within the distribution center.
- Perform preventive maintenance on all property, equipment, and mechanical systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Provide proactive system responses by identifying potential issues before they cause operational disruptions.
- Assist other maintenance associates as needed to complete repairs and projects efficiently.
- Maintain clear radio communication with leadership at all times to coordinate work and respond to issues promptly.
- Respond to all associates politely, professionally, and in a timely manner when maintenance support is requested.
- Complete additional maintenance duties and special projects as required by operational needs.
- Follow all safety procedures while using tools, equipment, ladders, and while working around moving machinery.
- Meet punctuality and regular attendance expectations in accordance with company policies.
- 3–5 years of related experience and/or training in mechanical maintenance.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
- Hands-on experience with conveyor repair, specifically belt-driven conveyor systems.
- Proficiency in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment.
- Ability to repair and maintain motors and related mechanical components.
- Experience with relays and basic electrical components used in industrial equipment.
- Ability to read and understand electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Experience with conveyor maintenance in a warehouse or distribution center environment.
- Capability to troubleshoot and repair forklifts or similar material-handling equipment.
- Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand for up to 2 hours at a time and move throughout the facility regularly.
- Ability to periodically climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch to access equipment and perform repairs.
- Consistent punctuality and regular attendance in line with company expectations.
- Experience performing both preventive and corrective maintenance in a fast-paced warehouse or industrial setting.
- Comfort working with moderately loud to loud machinery and equipment in a large conveyor system environment.
- Strong communication skills to interact professionally with leadership and associates via radio and in person.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other maintenance team members on repairs and projects.
- Adaptability to handle additional duties and projects as business needs change.
- Attention to detail when inspecting equipment and documenting maintenance activities.

Work Environment
This role is based in a large picking and packing warehouse that operates approximately 7 miles of conveyors, including tilt tables, spinners, and other material-handling equipment. The work environment combines a moderately noisy office area with a moderate to loud warehouse setting where conveyors and machinery run regularly. Tools required for the job are provided on-site. The average work week can vary based on business needs. One of the primary schedules includes a weekend shift from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The position requires frequent movement throughout the facility, climbing ladders, and working in areas where you may get dirty while servicing equipment. The dress code is casual and practical, allowing jeans and tennis shoes, suitable for a hands-on maintenance role in an active warehouse environment.
