Full-Time/Regular We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at the Staten Island Cancer Center. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing medically prescribed nuclear medicine procedures under general direction. Job Responsibilities Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties. Operates hospital and radiology information systems related to nuclear medicine, correctly selects patient information from the HIS/RIS system in accordance with HIPAA regulations, accesses appointment times, exam type, and reports, and documents timings as per departmental policy. Effectively assesses patient information and status, follows appropriate procedure(s), verifies patient identification through wristband or verbal confirmation, reviews requisitions, consults medical staff for clarifications, and adheres to accepted nuclear medicine procedures. Independently implements patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Explains the procedure and equipment to the patient clearly and obtains formal consent when necessary. Ensures patient comfort before, during, and after the procedure, maintains rapport, and preserves privacy. Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses using proper procedures and dose calculations, verifies vial labels, calculates activity, and performs calibrations. Positions patient and equipment correctly, adjusts settings to optimally acquire data, and analyzes results for reporting to the physician. Solves technical and patient‑related problems, modifies examinations as needed, and collaborates with other technologists. Assists physicians during procedures, completes examinations efficiently, transmits images to PACS, generates hard copies when required, and maintains a clean procedure area. Performs non‑imaging procedures per departmental protocols, collects specimens, selects containers, processes specimens, operates counting equipment, and maintains quality standards. Prepares and monitors radiopharmacy activities including dose preparation, generator assembly, compound radiopharmaceuticals, and waste disposal per regulatory guidelines. Disposes of radioactive waste according to policies, follows radiation safety procedures, reduces exposure, conducts contamination surveys, and performs decontamination when necessary. Conducts routine imaging system evaluations, calibrates gas systems, evaluates dose calibrators, and develops quality control procedures to ensure accuracy. Maintains records for quality control, dose preparation, radioactive material receipt, and waste disposal in appropriate logbooks. Executes equipment set‑up, selection of collimators and imaging parameters, operates laboratory equipment, reports malfunctions, and corrects printer issues. Performs additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related health field (for all employees hired after August 1 2016). For new graduates, a Nuclear Medicine permit issued by the NYS Department of Health. Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). Strong communication (written and oral), problem‑solving, and customer‑service skills. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Thorough knowledge of nuclear medicine equipment. Required Licenses Nuc Med Technologist License; Nuclear Med Tech Cert (NMTCB); ATN Registry of Radiologic Tech. Preferred Qualifications Completion of a baccalaureate degree in nuclear medicine technology.
