Job Title: Building Technician

Norcross, GA

Pay: $25 - $30/ Hour

Shift: Monday - Friday 8am-5pm - will be on call for emergency occasionally - open to OT

Job Description

The Building Technician maintains, repairs, and improves building facilities, equipment, and grounds in a modern, climate-controlled laboratory environment. This role focuses on preventive maintenance and corrective repair of property systems, using a broad range of trade skills including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, roofing, and building automation systems. The Building Technician also coordinates with outside vendors when necessary and provides responsive, customer-focused support to internal stakeholders and donors.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on building facilities, equipment, and grounds to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
• Monitor property system operations and performance, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and building automation systems, and take corrective action when needed.
• Repair and maintain building facility equipment using appropriate hand tools and other facility-related tools.
• Perform general building maintenance tasks such as light electrical work, basic plumbing, carpentry, drywall repair, painting, and minor roofing work.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and facility issues, diagnose root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Coordinate and communicate with outside vendors and service providers when specialized repairs or services are required.
• Utilize building automation systems (BMS) to monitor, adjust, and optimize facility performance.
• Use Microsoft Office and smartphone applications to document work, manage work orders, and communicate with team members.
• Support and reinforce the organizations mission and vision through reliable facility operations that enable high-quality laboratory testing services.
• Deliver world-class customer service by listening to and responding to the voice of the customer, including donors, through established feedback channels.
• Participate in customer engagement, feedback, and complaint processes to help resolve issues and drive satisfaction.
• Adhere to and demonstrate the companys Core Values of Accountability, Stewardship, Pioneer, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence (ASPIRE) in daily work.
• Be available for occasional on-call support to respond to facility emergencies and participate in overtime as needed.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of commercial building maintenance experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of HVAC schooling.
• Completion of HVAC 1 course.
• Universal HVAC certification.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Strong hands-on experience with commercial HVAC systems, equipment, and HVAC electrical components.
• Basic plumbing skills applicable to commercial facilities.
• Basic electrical skills, including light electrical and lighting maintenance.
• Basic carpentry skills, including drywall repair and general building repairs.
• Understanding of how Building Management Systems (BMS) or building automation systems work.
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills across facility systems.
• Ability to use hand tools and other building facility-related tools safely and effectively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Smartphone proficiency for communication and work order management.
• Ability to work under limited supervision while managing multiple maintenance tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with facility maintenance in laboratory, healthcare, or similar technical environments is beneficial.
• Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is a plus.
• Experience with painting, roofing, and general building finishing work.
• Familiarity with building automation and control systems beyond basic operation.
• Strong customer service mindset with the ability to respond professionally to internal customers and donors.
• Ability to interpret basic technical documentation related to building systems.
• Commitment to safety practices and adherence to OSHA guidelines.

Work Environment

This position is based in a modern, climate-controlled laboratory facility that provides state-of-the-art testing services for blood, plasma, and biological products. You will work a standard Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional on-call responsibilities for emergencies and openness to overtime when required. The environment involves regular use of hand tools and facility maintenance equipment, interaction with building automation systems and BMS, and use of technology such as Microsoft Office, smartphones, and potentially CMMS platforms. The facility maintains comfortable indoor conditions, supports a professional atmosphere, and emphasizes safety and adherence to established procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norcross, GA.

The pay range for this position is $25.40 - $31.41/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
