Store Supervisor

Position Title: Store Supervisor Schedule: Hourly, full‑time Reports to: Store Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager Supervises: Store associates, employees, trainees, volunteers, and auxiliary staff. Education and Work Experience High School degree or equivalent Three years of supervisory experience Three years of demonstrated experience in a retail environment Knowledge of cash controls and cashier procedures Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Detail oriented with strong attention to detail Team player who cooperates and works toward management goals Ability to delegate tasks and give instructions orally and in writing Strong command of written and verbal English Good organizational skills Professional public interaction skills Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment Customer service mindset Knowledge of cash controls and cashier procedures General business protocol knowledge Confidentiality handling Compliance with Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines Valid in‑state driver’s license and passing The Salvation Army’s in‑house driving test and MVR check Vehicle insurance if using a personal vehicle for TSA time or business purposes Knowledge of mileage reimbursement federal standards Software‑Related Skills Cash register proficiency Microsoft Word and Excel preferred Capability to learn new software programs with basic training SCOPE OF POSITION In coordination with the management team, the Store Supervisor oversees daily activities of staff, including meeting goals, merchandise organization, production, customer service, and sales, while maintaining a clean and organized retail environment. When the Store Manager is absent, the Store Supervisor is responsible for all daily activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Train and supervise all employees, volunteers, and auxiliary staff; handle personnel matters and required documentation. Provide written input for annual employee evaluations and trainee evaluations as needed. Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings to communicate organizational goals and solicit staff input. Ensure thorough orientation of all staff and volunteers on safety and accident policies per The Salvation Army Employee Handbook. Submit quarterly pricing documentation to support merchandise pricing, ensuring competitive pricing. Handle daily store sales income, including cash, charge, check, and voucher transactions; prepare daily sales reports, bank deposits, and donations. Be cross‑trained in all store positions and cover open shifts; assist in high‑volume periods (cashiering, stocking, etc.). Manage opening and closing procedures for the store. Arrange seasonal shopping and merchandise availability on a continuing basis; keep clothing racks and fixtures fully stocked. Regularly update and rearrange store displays to attract customer interest. Maintain correct tagging and pricing of clothing and other merchandise, following standard thrift store practices. Authorize price reductions on donated items with management approval as needed. Perform additional tasks necessary for successful operation of store, production area, and fleet management. Ensure safety, cleanliness, care, and maintenance of the sales floor, production area, building, vehicles, and restrooms. Conduct monthly safety inspections per Salvation Army policy and notify BCM of deficiencies and corrective actions. Order supplies required for daily operations. Ensure clerks greet and treat customers courteously and treat staff with respect and fairness. Handle customer complaints professionally and notify Manager of facts and disposition. Attend all scheduled and mandatory staff meetings, even if outside a scheduled shift or standard work day. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously. Grasp, push, pull objects such as files and cabinets; reach overhead for stocking duties. Operate cash register, telephone, desktop or laptop computer. Lift up to 35 lbs. Access and produce information from a computer. Understand and produce written information. Operate a motor vehicle. QUALIFICATIONS Three years of retail or thrift supervisory duties. BENEFITS Paid holidays, vacation, and sick time.
