Custodian

Position Summary St. Peter Parish & School is seeking a dependable, self-motivated Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for parishioners, students, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for routine custodial, building maintenance, and facility monitoring duties throughout the church and school properties. The ideal candidate will take pride in caring for parish facilities, possess strong attention to detail, and be able to work independently while responding to facility needs as they arise. Essential Responsibilities School & Daycare Facilities Sweep and mop stairways and designated floor areas. Maintain lunchroom, kitchen, and common area floors. Clean and inspect restrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, and fixtures. Stock restroom and kitchen supplies, including paper products and soap dispensers. Monitor playground areas for debris, hazards, and maintenance concerns. Assist staff with facility-related needs and minor maintenance requests. Remove weeds and brush from playground areas as needed. Clean entrance windows and other designated glass surfaces. Church Facilities Clean and stock church restrooms. Remove trash and recycling from designated areas. Clean and inspect the elevator and maintain required inspection logs. Monitor temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and cooling equipment. Check water softener salt levels and replenish as needed. Maintain custodial equipment and supplies. Building Maintenance & Preventive Care Inspect building systems and report maintenance concerns. Coordinate seasonal maintenance activities. Check HVAC systems, attic areas, gutters, and bell tower as assigned. Monitor propane levels and building utility systems. Replace light bulbs and perform minor facility repairs when appropriate. Check smoke detector batteries and inspect fire extinguishers. Coordinate waste removal services when needed. Summer Maintenance Projects Complete seasonal maintenance and cleaning projects. Clean windows, storage areas, stage, gymnasium, and designated facilities. Assist with floor care projects, including coordination of floor waxing. Clean refrigerator and freezer filters. Clean classroom and hallway rugs. Clean ventilation grilles and air conditioning components. Winter Responsibilities Shovel snow in designated entrances and walkways to ensure safe access. Qualifications Prior custodial, maintenance, facilities, or janitorial experience preferred. Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods. Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and building maintenance. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Strong reliability, organization, and attention to detail. Commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
