About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN Specialty: RN - ER Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: One year in acute care experience required License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required - Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required within 6 months of hire or transfer Must-Have: Associate Degree (A.S.) or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred Description: Provides nursing care, including triage, treatment, and discharge care for emergency department patients, from newborns to geriatrics. Completes accurate triage assessments on all patients and notifies the Emergency Medical Doctor of all abnormal signs, symptoms, and vital signs. Reviews and completes patient orders in a timely manner. Provides medication side effects teaching to all patients who receive medication in the emergency department and includes this teaching in discharge instructions. Recognizes the symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies. Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Is competent in all routine nursing skills including medication administration, intravenous therapy including blood products, care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains, and safe use of any medical equipment used in the critical care setting. Understands and follows the chain of command per policy. Accurately interprets ECG rhythms and manages care of patients during life-threatening emergencies. Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, able to make recommendations for best monitoring based on patient presentation. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skill in providing care during emergency activations. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluation of the patient's response to medications, treatments, and procedures. Consistently performs necessary safety and quality control checks. Facilitates safe and timely coordination and collaboration with inpatient units when admitting patients from the emergency department. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
