About the Role The Small Engine Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining lawn and landscape equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. This role supports field crews by keeping mowers and small equipment in good working condition, minimizing downtime, and extending equipment life. Requirements Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair small engines, including lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and related landscape equipment. Perform preventive maintenance and routine service tasks, including oil changes, blade sharpening, belt replacement, and filter servicing. Inspect equipment for safety issues, mechanical wear, and operational concerns; recommend repairs or replacement as needed. Maintain organized maintenance records and communicate equipment status, repair needs, and timelines to supervisors. Assist with seasonal equipment preparation, startup, and storage. Assist the Automotive Fleet Mechanic with preventive maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, as needed. Follow all safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines when repairing, operating, or testing equipment. Qualifications Hands‑on experience repairing small engines or outdoor power equipment preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot engine and equipment issues. Familiarity with gas‑powered and electric lawn and landscape equipment. Ability to lift, move, and position equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Valid driver’s license required (CDL not required) Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 75 lbs Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work with tools for extended periods Ability to work in a shop environment and outdoors as needed Education High school or equivalent (Required) License/Certification Driver's License (Required) Schedule Full‑time, Monday–Friday, with occasional weekends as needed. Work is performed primarily in a shop environment located in a heated barn, as well as in an outdoor yard setting. The role may involve exposure to noise, fumes, equipment vibration, and varying weather conditions.
