Position: RN - Behavioral Health ED Nights

Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)

Targeted Start Dates: November 2 or November 16

Job Overview

We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Behavioral Health Emergency Department (ED) to work night shifts. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience, along with at least 1 year of experience in psychiatric care. This role involves assessing and managing patients with mental and behavioral health conditions in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience.
• At least 1 year of experience in psychiatric nursing.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and CPI (in hand or willing to obtain during compliance).
• Valid NC or Compact Nursing License required at the time of submission.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with behavioral health issues.
• Perform psychological evaluations and initiate emergency interventions as needed.
• Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to provide high-quality care.
• Manage psychiatric holds and follow protocols for patient safety, including de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention.
• Administer medications and implement treatment plans as per physician orders.
• Conduct patient assessments and monitor progress throughout their stay.

• Patient Age Groups: Neonates
• Daily Census: 60 patients
• Number of Visits Per Day: 190
• Number of Rooms: 49
• Number of Beds: 49
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Chest pain, abdominal pain, respiratory distress, psych evaluations, cardiac arrest, and more.

Additional Skills Required

• Proficient in managing and implementing treatment for both acute physical conditions and mental health emergencies.
• Strong abilities in crisis intervention and behavior management techniques.
• Experience in legal aspects of behavioral health, including voluntary and involuntary commitment processes.
• Knowledge of medication administration methods, including antianxiety, antidepressants, antipsychotics, and sedatives.
• Interpretation of EKGs and telemetry monitoring.

Work Schedule

The position requires weekends and participation in on-call rotations may be required. Expect a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4 during night shifts.

Orientation & Compliance

Orientations are conducted bi-weekly. A flu vaccine is required, with no exemptions or declinations accepted. Candidates will also need to complete an EKG/Telemetry exam onsite during the orientation process.
